North Loom runs weekday after-school and Saturday tuition in groups of no more than six. Every student starts with a diagnostic session, leaves with a written plan, and is reviewed again at each half term.
Half-term break in the final week of October; progress reviews are written in the week that follows.
One subject per session, with a 10-minute written recap the student takes home.
Paired and one-to-one slots are kept for exam years and for students rebuilding confidence.
Programme index
Lanes are grouped by curriculum stage rather than by age, so a student can sit in the group that matches the work in front of them. Subject content follows the school's scheme of work wherever it is shared with us.
01
Number fluency, written methods, reading comprehension and extended writing. Ends each term with a short familiarisation paper so the format stops being the hard part.
02
For students who have quietly lost the thread. We re-teach algebraic basics, fractions and ratio, then rebuild written English around structure and evidence.
03
Topic cycles mapped to the student's exam board, with marked past-paper questions every fortnight and a written note on where marks were lost.
04
Biology, chemistry and physics taught in rotation, with required practicals revisited on paper: method, variables, and the graph the examiner expects.
05
Paired sessions on pure, mechanics and statistics. Students bring the problem set they are stuck on; we work it through and then rehearse the method unaided.
06
Three-morning blocks in the October, February and Easter breaks. Each block covers one topic area in depth and finishes with a full timed paper.
How tuition works
Nothing here depends on a parent chasing us for information. The plan is written down, the work is marked, and the review arrives on a date you already know.
A single 75-minute session with the tutor who would teach the group. The student works through a short written assessment and talks through what feels hardest.
Within three days you receive a one-page plan: the gaps we found, the order we will teach them in, the group we recommend, and what success looks like by half term.
Same tutor, same slot, same group each week. Each session has a stated objective, worked examples, independent practice, and a recap sheet to take home.
A short written review covering topics covered, marked work, attendance and the next half term's focus. If a group is no longer the right fit, we say so and move the student.
This term's timetable
All sessions run in the centre's three teaching rooms. Where a slot is on a waiting list, we hold a short list and contact you as soon as a place opens.

Diagnostic sessions are arranged outside these hours so a new student never joins a group mid-topic. Half-term intensives are published at the start of each term and run on break-week mornings.
Choosing a plan
Fees are charged per half term, in advance, and include marking, recap sheets and the written review. There is no joining fee and no charge for the diagnostic if the student goes on to join a group.

Suits — one clear gap
The right starting point for most students: a single subject taught consistently for a full term. Choose this if school reports flag one area, or if homework in one subject has become a weekly argument.
£48 per weektwo 75-minute groups weekly
Suits — maths and English together
Pairs well across Years 4–9, where confidence in reading affects the maths word problems. We schedule the two sessions on different days so no evening becomes too long.
£34 per sessionsmall group plus fortnightly marking
Suits — Years 11 and 13
Groups of four with a marked past-paper question every fortnight and a written note on lost marks. Book this by February if you want a specific tutor and slot before the spring rush.
Who teaches here
Students stay with the same tutor for the whole term. If you would like a particular tutor, say so in your enquiry and we will tell you honestly what is still open.
Maths · Years 7–13
Teaches algebra by writing every step out loud before letting anything be skipped. Runs the Thursday A-level clinic and the exam-term marking cycle.
Sciences · Years 9–11
Covers combined and triple science, with a habit of rebuilding required practicals on paper until the method can be written from memory. Also teaches KS3 maths repair.
English · Years 4–11
Starts with structure: what the paragraph is for, then what evidence earns it. Leads primary writing on Mondays and GCSE literature on Saturday mornings.
